Our 8th grade students went to the T4 Career Expo last week. Students enjoyed learning about many different careers and took part in hands-on activities connected to each one. Running an excavator simulator, putting together an oil pipeline, learning how soil sampling works, and making a keychain were just some of the activities they experienced. It was a great day of learning and exploration for our students.

A small group of junior and senior girls spent the day in Park River exploring rural career options!
Six girls shadowed a variety of roles at First Care Hospital, where they observed everything from mixing chemo bags to viewing X-rays, assisting with ultrasounds, running the CT scanner, and seeing nursing and PT/OT in action.
Jassy explored her interest in teaching by visiting a larger rural school, shadowing reading groups, preschool, and upper-elementary math, though 1st and 2nd grade stole her heart.
Lily visited Golden Valley Vet, watched lab work and surgeries, and left even more certain she wants to become a large-animal veterinarian.
Such an awesome day of hands-on learning!

Four juniors toured the programs at Northland in EGF recently. Northland offers programs at their EGF and Thief River locations. If you haven't been to their campus in awhile, you'll be blown away at their improvements to their facility and connections to local employers.

NDSU Extension is offering a free book study to all area parents and caregivers! Participants will receive a free copy of The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt at the first session. We will meet for four weeks to discuss why what’s on the screen matters more than the minutes spent, how technology can lead to a rise in anxiety and depression, and how to connect with your kids at any age.
We will meet Mondays starting Nov. 17th, 7pm at the Nelson County Courthouse.
Pre-registration is preferred, but walk-ins welcome! Register at bit.ly/LakAnxGen
